The Computational Biology Division, which is in the Department of Integrative Biomedical Sciences and the
Institute of Infectious Disease & Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences leads the Bioinformatics activities
at the University of Cape Town. The group also leads H3ABioNet, a pan African bioinformatics network, which runs
an extensive training and outreach program. Together with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Africa CDC
has developed a Pathogen Genomics Initiative to enable the roll out of next generation sequencing (NGS) for
pathogen surveillance and response. Several nodes are being established across Africa under this initiative which
will need to receive training on all aspects of NGS implementation. The Training Curriculum Administrator will be
responsible for the development of a curriculum and training materials for a training program for the initiative in
collaboration with the Africa CDC and other external stakeholders. The role includes a landscaping exercise to
determine what training exists and development of the curriculum and training materials. Training will include both
face to face courses and online training. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this 18
month, fixed term contract position of a Training Coordinator (Bioinformatics Training), for appointment as
soon as possible. A part-time appointment may be considered. There is a possibility for extension beyond the 18
month period subject to availability of funding. The position will be situated in the Computational Biology Division
at the University of Cape Town.

Responsibilities:
- Involvement in curriculum development and teaching in the department’s online programmes i.e Honours, Masters, and ADE in School Leadership and Management.
- Involvement in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in contact, blended and online modes of delivery.
- Research supervision of Master’s and Doctoral postgraduate students in the field of education management and leadership
- Lead national and international research projects
- Procure funding for research
- Involvement in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development and marketing.
- Involvement in community engagement and continuous professional development of leadership at school, district and senior management levels.
Professor of Educational Leadership
- Based in Glasgow, the University’s School of Education is the most important in Scotland, educating 47% of teachers in the country, (and ranked 4th in the UK, in this year’s Complete University Guide).
- Candidates must already be a full Professor or Associate Professor/Reader
- They must be a specialist in Educational Leadership with both their teaching and research focused on the subject
- They should be currently research active with a solid track record of quality publications in educational leadership
- A track record of grant funding for projects in Educational Leadership is essential
- Extensive experience of the supervision of Postgraduate Research students is required
- The appointed will already be an acknowledged expert in the field of educational leadership with a national and international reputation and the willingness to innovate and internationalise research and teaching whilst influencing policy both locally and globally

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER (TRAINING SUPPORT)

supporting training, providing technical support for trainers and trainees. He/she will develop and manage
containerized workflows for courses and ensure these and datasets are set up at training venues. He/she will
develop the program’s website and GitHub repository and develop online application and assessment tools and a
tracking database. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this 18 month, fixed term
contract position of a Software Developer (Training Support), for appointment as soon as possible. A part-
